WHAT THE HOT NEW COLORS ARE

Posted on July 11th, 2014 by Toms Price Home.

Toms-Price interior designer Tami Mirabella talks about hot new colors for your home in our blog series “Ask Our Designers”.

Ask Our Designers Series - Tami-Mirabella

Q: What are the hot new colors in home decor?

A: Now is an exciting time to refresh your home with vibrant colors! Here are some of the trends:

bright orange

raspberry red

teal (turquoise or peacock)

lemon sorbet

blues in many shades

We are finding more of our furniture manufacturers – including CR Laine, Wesley Hall, Century and Stickley – are enlivening their fabrics this season with brights. They are appearing in solids or large prints like over-sized floral patterns and contemporary abstracts such as zig-zags or geometric shapes. You will see lovely, tapestry-like designs as well.

Designers are now infusing pops of the new colors, like the bright raspberry and lemon sorbet shown below, with neutrals like cream, gray or silver. These new colors are absolutely beautiful!

Of course, you can always go with neutral base colors such as gray or beige on your walls or furniture pieces and still have color in your home. Warm brown wood finishes with nickel handles can act as neutral anchors. Then, add lots of bright colors in the decorative accessories and on upholstered pieces such as sofas, chairs and bedding. We’re even finding bold, vibrant colors on lamp bases, pillows, vases and other accent pieces.

Bold and bright color accents, including the dreamy teal wall shown in this room from CR Laine at left, look fabulous against white trim, rugs and accessories. By contrasting the dark espresso finish on the legs of this tufted sofa, wing chair and ottomans, you can make the teal a focal point in the room. Additionally, they have accented with bright red and chrome nail head trim for a simply stunning effect.

Many designers are pairing blues and crisp whites with shiny chrome accents for a refreshing Nantucket style shown below. Blue, white and beige have been around for a while, but they do not seem to be phasing out anytime soon. The clean crispness of a nautical inspired room can work for any family room environment which you want to be light and airy.  No beach house necessary!

  5. Patti says:

I love the bright fresh colors….especially the oranges and yellows. I am most comfortable with mid-century modern decor, and the colors that were used back then are fabulous. About the color Orange, I think it depends on what tone you like. I prefer the Tangerines, and Corals….1950-60’s. Frank Sinatra loved the color orange. His home in Palm Springs was decorated with some Orange in every room…not sure that would be my taste, but he loved it ! I enjoyed the blog, and I will continue to tune in to the Toms Price website…very interesting and fun.

  7. Mick Miller says:

The teal and dark blue are great. Not so sure about the orange, green and pink, but maybe they’re right for someone!
