Wallcoverings: A wonderful way to add pattern & color to a room!

Design tips and trends from Juliene Guffey, Design Consultant, Toms Price Home.
As designers, we like to complete the entire room for a client and can suggest a particular look and oftentimes that look involves wallcoverings. Modern wallcovering designs breathe fresh air and personalization into the home. Wallpaper can be very chic on one wall to create a focal point in a room. Or, as a subtle backdrop it can soften the room.
Wallpaper is re-emerging as a viable option for walls; this time around with more of an artistic, modern approach. Many wallpapers can grace a large accent wall, as a striking pattern or as a contemporary geometric design to create atmosphere and make a bold statement.
Murals are also resurging as major artwork in a room. Modern takes on classic murals add fine art to a room and can help set the mood of the space.
Large Art Deco patterns and floral Chintz designs are also back, and updated with current color schemes to coordinate with current trends. Designs are fresh and innovative, and sometimes combine nostalgia to add sophistication or playfulness to a room. Floral patterns have been freshened up and can now add whimsy, or sophistication to a room.
Consider these beautiful, fresh, and new options in your favorite places:
- • Faux nature – Wood and rock are bold and can be used as a focal point or to accent a niche area.
- • Grasscloth has made a comeback as a way to add natural woven texture.
- • Touches of metallic and raised textures can add glam to an otherwise dull space.
- • Smaller-scale geometric textures.
- • Watercolor-inspired papers are trending as well. From tiny brushstrokes to large painted stripes and sky inspired motifs, they add softness and appeal.
- • Soft feather and leaf patterns create a soft and natural background.
- • Textured treatments can offer many ways to add interest and depth to any space.
