Ode to January: Part 2

Posted on January 25th, 2008 by Toms Price Home.

In January I’m usually pretty prompt in packing up holiday decorations and getting them out of the way until next year. And after I get over the shock of seeing the house so denuded, I wonder where all the space came from. I don’t remember buying a bigger house, but I swear there’s more square footage than we had three weeks ago.

By next November we’ll be ready for the carols and the baking and the trimming again. We’ll plan and we’ll party and we’ll actually be excited to see snow. But for now, it’s good to enjoy a schedule – and a house – that’s suddenly a lot less crowded with stuff. That’s what January is for.

I love to use the time after the Holidays are over, and decorations are put away to clean, organize and rearrange furniture & accessories. I like to change out some accessories appropriate to each Season/Holiday just to make things more interesting and fun! Then each time someone comes over, they notice something new…and timely.

If you can believe it, yesterday, February 3, I finally finished putting away the last of the holiday decorations!! Oh, except for the poinsettias which I can never stand to toss cruelly out, even if they do look a bit out of place now.
