The Inside Story

Posted on June 29th, 2009 by Toms Price Home.

What is hidden on the inside of your upholstery really counts most. The construction features below relate to our mid-range to premium upholstery.

FRAMES MADE TO LAST
Kiln dried hardwoods are precision machined and fitted to prevent warping. The double or triple-doweled joints are corner blocked, fitted, and then screwed into position. This results in frames that are strong, trouble free, and very durable.

COIL SPRINGS
There are several methods of “springing up” upholstered seats. Most of our manufacturers use top quality, high carbon steel coils that are hand-tied (not just looped) eight ways for comfort and proper seat support. Sometimes a thin seat deck (often found in occasional chairs) prevents use of an eight-way hand tied system. Alternative pre-engineered spring systems are effectively used on some of our more budget-priced products.

STEEL WEBBING
Steel bands under each row of springs guarantee that the springs will never sag. Noise-proof and rustproof, its complaint-free performance is shown in many years of use.

INSIDE FILLING
Comfort, loft, resilience and recovery are the goals. To accomplish these, the inside of an upholstered piece is padded with the best filling materials for quality and aesthetic appearance, usually with a deeply cushioned back to lend extra comfort.
