Some Tips About Scale

Posted on December 4th, 2008 by Toms Price Home.

One of the most important principles of design, and one of the most overlooked by people, is scale. It may seem obvious, but so many times I walk into a client’s home and notice they have furniture that is just too big for the room. Often, people are looking for generously-sized, comfortable furniture and forget about how that furniture will fit in their particular space and also how the scale of that furniture will work with other pieces in the room.

It is really important to consider the size and shape of a room and of course the size and shape of the furniture before purchasing. As an interior designer, one of the services I provide is measuring the room; then I can create a layout, or floorplan, to make sure all of the furniture is properly scaled and fits the space. It works wonders in the final result!
