Ask anyone in retail and they’ll tell you. Holidays are not about sleigh rides, chestnuts and rosy memories round the fire. They’re all about setting up and taking down; unpacking, tagging, selling and delivering; rushed customers, stressed coworkers, and the feeling that no matter how hard you try there’s no way to get it all done.
And this year we are deeply thankful that we get to do it again.
Last year at this time we were celebrating our 100th year in business, quite a milestone for any company but especially one that’s been held in one family across four generations. As it turned out, however, we weren’t able to spend much time reveling in the past. Like the rest of the world, we found ourselves staring down the barrel of a global financial crisis. The future, not the past, had to be the focus and that future looked as challenging as anything faced in the previous century.
This year as we hold our annual Floor Sample Sale it’s more understandable than usual when we get the inevitable “Are you going out of business?” So many stores have, after all. But for us, this is a celebration of renewal that we’ve held for over fifty years. It kicks off our holiday season and wer’re anticipating our new furniture and accessories like kids around the tree.
Kind of. Until we start unpacking and tagging and setting up and taking down. . .
Many happy returns.
One hundred years! That's incredible. Congrats!
