The Need for Comfort at Taliesin

Posted on August 21st, 2009 by Toms Price Home.

The month of August is speeding by. With vacations and summer laziness this has not been a very active blog.

I made an excursion to Taliesin, in Wisconsin, and visited the summer school of architect Frank Lloyd Wright — loved it and every stunning view of the green Wisconsin countryside.

Interesting factoid: the family room at Taliesin has Wright’s furniture but also chairs from Marshall Fields for comfort! (Sorry, no photos were allowed inside.) This reinforces the needed marriage between pure form and function. In our homes it can be a tricky balance finding just the look we want in furniture without overly compromising our comfort. We don’t want the recliner-look in our living rooms, but we do want the comforting release from stressful days a recliner provides.

The Marshall Fields lounge chairs at Taliesin did fit in and looked great, even if they weren’t FLW designs. Even he relented in this instance.
