Well, we’re at it again — circular saws are buzzing, hammers are swinging and soon the smell of fresh paint will be wafting from our newest construction project here at the Wheaton store. It can be a disruptive process, this ongoing effort to stay updated and current; and as we move and then move again the furniture and accessories and rugs that will go into our new space, I’m somehow reminded of what was once a daily refrain back when mornings were battles of will in junior high. “Why do I have to make my bed every morning if I’m just going to get back in it at night?”
Why, indeed? Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to leave things as they are? And what’s so bad about things as they are, anyway?
Nothing, if the rest of the world stays still, too; but it’s a moving target, this thing called style. Keeping up, staying current, being in the game — well, for us, that makes it worth getting out of bed in the morning.
