The "Wonder Rug"

Posted on May 23rd, 2012 by Toms Price Home.

The Karastan Multi-Panel Kirman rug, dubbed the “Wonder Rug”, arrived at our Wheaton store May 17 and is stunning!

Wonder Rug by Karastan

Toms-Price is bringing back a piece of Chicago history with this beautiful vintage rug created for the entrance of the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. It was walked over by five million attendees!

A year after the World’s Fair, Karastan cleaned half the rug to show how the amazing beauty and quality of Karastan was just wash a way. In 1939, during the New York World’s Fair, more than 9 million people walked over the same rug. Again half was cleaned to reveal its beauty. These pictures show the vibrant color on one half, that still looks fresh, and how the dust accumulated over the years has its effect.

Now that the Wonder Rug is displayed in Toms-Price Wheaton, come take a look through Memorial Day, May 28th.

Wonder Rug arrives in its own padlocked trunk.

Into the elevator at Toms-Price Wheaton store.

Preparing to hang the rug.

Lifting the heavy rug over the balcony railing.

All set to unroll – hold on tight!

There it goes!

The left side has never been cleaned so you can see the contrasting color.

Great job everyone!
