The (Not So) Quick Fix

Posted on June 30th, 2008 by Toms Price Home.

From our own little corner of this industry called “home furnishings”, we can size up a progression down the road that led us here. Our challenge has been to adapt to current expectations trained to instantaneous gratification and ever increasing percentages off the price. But fine furniture isn’t like technology. It can’t materialize in an instant and duplicate itself exponentially in the blink of an eye. And, that little word “fine” means a version 2.0 sofa, for “x” price, can’t be delivered to you today with updates that improve on it next year. Nor can it be found regularly in big box discount stores where economies of scale rule.

Perhaps it’s time to revisit the merits of the quick fix — the disposable solution. Furniture that lasts will cost something. Solutions that last will too.
