

There’s something really transformational happening with traditional furnishings — they’re going modern. Are modern furnishings going traditional? To some extent yes. While “modern” adds on curlicues and flowers, “traditional” peels away excesses of ornamentation. I guess it had to go that way. I mean where could over-the-top embellishment go but the other way — towards simplification, and vice versa for stark modern design. Are we going to eventually meet in the middle somewhere? That is already happening if we look to many homes pictured in shelter magazines these days. It’s an ongoing recognition of individuality; not having to tow only one style line or another.
