Top Grain Leather

Posted on September 6th, 2007 by Toms Price Home.

Animal hides are split into different grades for different uses. The top layer, called “top grain”, is the most supple, durable, and desirable for furniture. Other layers are suitable for belts, shoes and such. Not all leather furniture is top grain. It is possible with different tanning techniques to make a lower grade of leather softer to the touch, but this does not extend its durability. Make sure your piece of furniture is upholstered in top grain leather and you will have a piece that should last generations.
