There’s something about velvet. Sumptuous. Sophisticated.\u00a0Lush<\/span>\u00a0and plush. No wonder people are talking about wrapping themselves up in versatile velvet these days with their home decor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Velvet is back in a big way. Velvet fabrics “are\u00a0<\/span>on the upswing trending in both fashion and the home,” says Erin Tsucalas, Upholstery Merchandiser for Lexington furniture collections, one of the dozens of fine furniture brands available at Toms-Price.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why the sudden resurgence in velvet? The truth is it never really went away.\u00a0<\/span>“But now velvet has a different level of importance,” says Michael Delgaudio, Creative Director at upscale furniture maker Marge Carson. “There’s no question, we’re seeing more and more of it.”
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Today’s velvets aren’t your parents’ velvets. Thanks to modern manufacturing methods, velvet fabrics are more low maintenance.\u00a0But according to Delgaudio, velvet’s popularity is about a lot more than ease of care. The appeal is in large part because “velvet has a wonderful tactile quality. It’s a fabulous medium to touch.”\u00a0<\/span>We couldn’t agree more. When you rub your fingers over velvet \u2013 on a chair arm, a sofa cushion or a pillow, not only does it feel soft \u2013 but it looks soft, too. <\/span><\/p>\n

Delgaudio adds that velvet reflects light differently too. “It exudes a richness. There’a a high-end kind of thing about it.”\u00a0<\/span>Today’s velvets are available in a variety of textiles–cotton, linen, silk, even polyester \u2013 at an array of price points. Marge Carson’s Delgaudio loves their quilted velvet fabrics.
