You may be asking: “Are we back to the 50s, 60s and 70s with low seating?” It could be the popularity of mid-century modern furniture \u2013 or a natural cycling through styles \u2013 that has brought lower sofas back to the fore in design. Laura La Porte<\/a>, Toms-Price interior designer in Old Orchard says: “The low profile look is more contemporary and will give your room an updated look.” You may want to stop in and try out different seat heights to see which is most comfortable for you.<\/p>\n

Your preference for the newer low and lovely sofas may depend on what seat heights you already have in your home. Although things don’t have to match these days, it’s nice to keep pieces in a good proportional relationship to each other. There are some clever ways to disguise different heights with artwork or the placement of furniture in relation to windows. You do want everyone to be comfortable having conversations, though, so you may want to steer away from drastic differences in seating heights.<\/p>\n

Here are three of the low and lovely sofas now showing at Toms-Price. None of these go to low extremes and would be easy to blend with other pieces you have. Top:<\/strong> The Monroe sofa<\/a> by Wesley Hall with wide kidney pillows and a tufted back. Middle:<\/strong> The Newlin sofa<\/a> by Vanguard which provides casual comfort in a two-seated sofa.
