"I am inspired by many things: art, fabrics, travel, nature and fashion", says Kathleen, "really anything that evokes feelings and can give me a sense of inspiration." She tells her clients that their home is an extension of their own personality. "It is what you come home to everyday, so make it beautiful – make it your own." This communicates her understanding that "presentation is everything".
Kathleen received a Bachelor of Arts in History at Benedictine University and an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design at Baker College. She has been a member of ASID for over 10 years. In the more than 15 years as both a residential and commercial designer she has also owned an Interior Design business and so understands the importance of communication throughout the design process. The most exciting part of the design process, to Kathleen, is when the selection of fabrics, finishes, colors, and accessories creates a masterpiece. "I love it when the room comes to life with harmony from all these different elements", she says.
The earliest design project she remembers was when she was the Chairperson of the Decoration Committee for her church. "I had to transform the gym into a European Market place. We had a wonderful group of people that all helped on the committee and it was a great success."
She imagines a dream project would be to design a villa or apartment in France. "I would love to design around the intricate moldings, huge doors and classic fireplaces that are indicative of the area. It would be 'magnifique'."
